Sapporo city

Since the establishment of Hokkaido Development Commissioner in 1869, Sapporo City has continued to develop as a center for the development of Hokkaido. Currently, Sapporo City has grown into the fifth nation-wide city with a population of over 1,900,000. There is no rainy season in Hokkaido unlike the other regions in the mainland of Japan, and the summer season is short where the average temperature exceeds 20 degrees centigrade. In the winter from December to February, the climate is characterized by very low temperature, and heavy snow that sometime reaches approximately 5m in depth. This city is the center of goods distribution in Hokkaido. In particular, abundant foodstuffs such as vegetables, fruits and fish are collected from various parts of Hokkaido.
