Tsu City is located about 45 minutes by train from Nagoya City, one of the three major metropolitan areas in Japan, and the former Tsu City was one of the first cities established in Japan in 1889. In the 1960s when Japan was a big shipbuilding nation, this coastal city owned the world's largest dock and had the world's largest steel structure manufacturing plant. It is also known as the city with the largest number of eel restaurants in Japan in terms of population, and the consumption of eel per population is said to be the largest in Japan.
