Formulation of Agricultural Machinery Open API Specification for data linkage that centrally manages agricultural machinery data and realizes efficient agricultural management

National Agriculture and Food Research Organization(NARO) has released various documents such as Application Programming Interface(API) specifications for agricultural machinery and equipment, in order to realize data linkage that is easy for farmers to use at production sites. This is an effort outcome of the "Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Data Management and Utilization Infrastructure Reinforcement Project under Smart Agriculture Comprehensive Promotion Measures Project". This API specification is expected to lead to the realization of data linkage that transcends boundaries between manufacturers and the improvement of the data usage environment for farmers.

Overview

NARO (Headquarters: Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture) is not limited to the framework of agricultural machinery manufacturers but also incorporates data such as work records that farmers can obtain from agricultural machinery and equipment so that they can be centrally managed. Therefore, the "Agricultural Machinery API Common Consortium" consisting of agricultural machinery/equipment manufacturers, ICT vendors, industry groups, etc. was established in the year 2021 and necessary review was carried out regarding the "Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Data Management and Utilization Infrastructure Reinforcement Project under Smart Agriculture Comprehensive Promotion Measures Project" of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

This time, as a deliverable of the project, "Agricultural Machinery Open API Specification", which is the standard for manufacturers to implement API, "API connection checklist" to support secure data linkage, "Ordinance of API Terms of Use in the Agricultural Field" that serves as a model when concluding an API usage contract and "Achievement Report" which is a summary version of these achievements was formulated. The Agricultural machinery/equipment manufacturers, ICT vendors, etc. can utilize these to carry out various procedures related to the implementation and use of APIs. Hence it is expected to accelerate data linkage in the industry and promote the use of data by farmers. This consortium plans to provide API groups in line with the Agricultural Machinery Open API Specification through the Agricultural Data Linkage Platform(WAGRI) operated by NARO.
