Dairy Hygiene Group

Dairy Hygiene Group conducts research to help prevent mastitis, a major cause of productivity losses in dairy farming. In studying bovine mastitis, we investigate disease mechanisms in the host while also analyzing the characteristics of key causative bacteria—such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Mycoplasma—using samples collected from dairy farms. Hokkaido, where our Sapporo Research Station is located, produces approximately 60% of Japan's raw milk and is home to many large-scale dairy operations, providing valuable field materials for our research. Based on these findings, we are working toward the development of preventive vaccines.
In addition to mastitis research, we also support livestock health through diagnostic services, training programs, and other essential activities that contribute to disease control in the field.
