Pathogenic Mechanisms Research Group

Pathogenic Mechanisms Research Group studies bacterial pathogens that cause significant problems in livestock health, including anaerobic bacteria responsible for sudden death in animals, pathogenic bacteria of honeybees, respiratory pathogens of livestock, and the emerging poultry pathogen Enterococcus cecorum. Although many of these bacteria coexist harmlessly with their hosts, certain species or specific strains can lead to serious disease.
To improve the prevention and diagnosis of bacterial infections, we analyze clinical samples to develop simple and accurate methods for detecting high-risk bacteria and work to uncover the mechanisms underlying their pathogenicity.

Rapid detection kits developed by our group: a kit for major bacterial pathogens associated with bovine respiratory disease (right) and a kit for major antimicrobial resistance genes of the pathogens (left).
