Oocytes with follicular epithelial (FE) cells were collected from ovaries of heifers persistently infected with bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus. In-vitro fertilization of the oocytes was perfomed after their in-vitro maturation. The BVD virus replicated in the FE cells during in-vitro embryo development. However, it has been suggested that there was no replication of the virus in embryonic cells.
