17. Reproduction of anasarca in Japanese Black cattle fattened with low vitamin A feed

Japanese

Anasarca was reproduced in two of nine cattle fed with a low vitamin A diet consisting of concentrates and rice straw for 19-22 months. The anasarcous cattle revealed a prominent decrease of plasma vitamin A concentration below 10 IU/100ml and ration intake. Pathological characteristics were severe intermuscular edema, degeneration of blood vascular walls and mild muscular fiber degeneration.
