02. New Selective Medium for Klebsiella spp. in Environmental Samples from Livestock Industries

Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the serious pathogens of cow mastitis. The selective media which were previously reported are not suitable for the samples such as manure and bedding from dairy farms because of their low selectivity. Therefore, we developed a new selective medium, "BIND" for Klebsiella spp. The "BIND" medium is composed of brilliant green, myo-inositol, nitrate, deoxycolate and mineral nutrients. Klebsiella spp on this medium forms smooth white or pale blue colonies which can be easily recognized from other bacteria.
