04. Shedding of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157 from cattle inhibited by feeding roughage

Japanese

We conducted an experiment to examine the relations between feedstuffs and the shedding of EHEC O157 in cattle.  The results revealed that concentrates promoted the colonization of EHEC O157 in their digestive organs and roughage inhibited it.  When carrier cattle were fed hay, the shedding of EHEC O157 was stopped for a short period of time.  It suggested the possibility of controlling the carrying of EHEC O157 with the proper feeding of roughage.
