03. Identification of Salmonella enterica serovars Typhimurium, Choleraesuis, Dublin, Enteritidis, and Gallinarum by detection of multiple serovar-specific genes

Japanese

Salmonellosis in domestic animals caused by serovars Typhimurium, Choleraesuis, Dublin, Enteritidis, and Gallinarum is designated as a notifiable disease under the Domestic Animal Infectious Control law. It takes about 2 weeks to determine Salmonella serovars, including the time for isolation from various samples using conventional methods. We developed a novel method for identification of the 5 serovars by PCR detection of multiple genes specific for each serovar. Using this method, it takes 5 days to identify the 5 serovars, including the time for isolation.
