Cytotoxic T cells elicited by infection or vaccination play a major role in the cell-mediated immunity to viral infections. In the case of influenza virus infections, the recall efficacy and longevity of cytotoxic T cells are closely related to the expression of activation markers, such as CD27 and CD43.
