To achieve sustainable dairy and beef production, it is essential to develop technologies that can simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cattle and improve productivity. Department of Cattle Feeding and Breeding Research addresses these challenges by integrating knowledge and research approaches from fields such as animal nutrition, physiology, microbiology, and genetics and breeding.
We specifically aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cattle and improve productivity by:
・elucidating microbial metabolism in the rumen,
・developing simple and precise methods for measuring methane emissions, and
・optimizing the nutritional balance of feed.
Additionally, we seek to improve productivity through smart feeding and management technologies that utilize genetic information together with feed formulation data by developing indicators to indirectly estimate feed efficiency and establishing methods for evaluating their genetic potential.
