The livestock industry is undergoing major changes due to a shrinking and aging workforce and rising costs for agricultural inputs. To ensure stable livestock production and respond to increasing exports, improving productivity by stabilizing and strengthening the livestock production base is essential. However, in cattle production, declining conception rates in breeding cows and longer calving intervals have long reduced productivity.
To address these issues, the Department of Livestock Reproduction Research aims to improve productivity by expanding the use of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer technologies and by developing new methods to shorten calving intervals based on detailed analysis of reproductive physiology. Research is being advanced through three specialized groups: (1) Embryo Production Research Group, (2) Reproductive Physiology Group, and (3) Theriogenology Group.
