Institute for Plant Protection, NARO

Transboundary and High-risk Pest Control Group

Our mission is to develop technology to minimize damage by early detection and control of alien pests (= transboundary, high-risk pests) that could invade Japan, or that have already invaded and are being watched for their spread in the country. Currently, we are developing technologies for the early detection and control of Xyllela fastidiosa (Pierce's disease), tomato brown rugose fruit virus, cyst nematodes, pospiviroid, Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (citrus greening disease), etc. that require special caution. We are also digitizing related information on the pests accumlated in the NARO. We are building a platform for the use of information through the internet at domestic plant protection sites such as Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Plant Protection Station and prefectural pest control stations.
