Image Recognition Unit

Crop growth, disease detection etc., are generally decided by human visual judgement in the agricultural production process. The image recognition unit contributes to improving the efficiency of agricultural production by replacing the judgments made by the human eye with images and automating them. Along with the identification of pest species, diseases, and weeds through image recognition, we are also developing technology to estimate the condition of cows based on their skeletal shapes and image analysis technology for crop growth diagnosis and soil condition estimation. We are also engaged in the research and development of an insect killing device that looks similar to that of device shown in science fiction movie and shoots down flying pests with a high-power laser beam. In addition to digital camera images, images from various devices such as observation satellites, drones, in-vehicle cameras, and smartphones are applied to a wide range of agricultural research fields, including crops, pests, diseases, weeds, livestock, and fruit trees.
