Department of Animal Disease Control and Prevention

The Department of Animal Disease Control and Prevention consists of Cooperation Office of Animal Health Government Affairs, Biologicals Production Office and Diagnosis Supporting Office.

The Cooperation Office of Animal Health Government Affairs coordinates external analysis and appraisal requests, distributes biological products, and holds workshops and training sessions on animal hygiene.

The Biologicals Production Office currently produces 10 animal and poultry biologics (Vaccines and diagnostic drugs). In particular, "Rinderpest Tissue Culture Prevention Solution (Rinderpest Live Vaccine (Seed))" against rinderpest, the second most eradicated disease in the world next to smallpox in humans, is approved for production by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) as the only stockpiled vaccine in the world in case of a recurrence of rinderpest.

In order to support animal disease research in each research group from a technical aspect, the Diagnosis Supporting Office conducts the preparation and analysis of pathological tissue samples, the analysis of components of biomaterials, the isolation, culture, and genetic testing of microorganisms, the photographing of scientific photographs, and the creation of databases, as well as the collection and management of pathogens, cells, serum, etc. We are also working to certify and maintain ISO 17025, the international standard, in order to ensure the reliability of our testing.
