19. Characteristics of liver lesions in cattle administrated with endogenous endotoxin from the rumen

Japanese

Endogenous endotoxin from the rumen of cattle fed with a concentrated ration could easily induce focal necrotic lesions in the liver of cattle by intra- venous administration. One cattle died 10 hours after administration of endotoxin. Its acid phosphatase (Ap) activity of liver macrophages decreased remarkablely from 6 hours. This decrease was not recognized in survival cattle. Therefore, Ap activity of liver macrophages might be one of criterions for the prognosis of endotoxin administration.
