Liquid phase competition ELISA, used for the detection of neutralizing antibodies to foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), O/JPN/2000, was developed using the monoclonal antibody to FMDV, O/JPN/2000. The result correlated to this method and the virus neutralization test, and the rate of non-specific reaction of this method is less than that of the present liquid phase competition ELISA. Consequently it is possible to use this method for serological surveillance and for diagnosing infected animals that do not show symptoms.
