Institute of Vegetable and Floriculture Science, NARO

Division of Greenhouse Productivity Research

Our division carries out research, development and practical implementation projects to address various issues concerning vegetable and flower production, such as meeting market demand for agricultural products, solving agricultural labor shortages, and so on. We aim to improve crop productivity and strengthen industrial competitiveness through data-driven smart production processes.
We encourage the use of greenhouses with advanced environmental control, as well as private services using new ICT-based cultivation management systems in Japan and overseas. We have developed a core technology, "NARO growth yield prediction technology" for smart crop production. By continuing to develop new greenhouse environmental control technologies using advanced sensing technology, AI and gene information, we will refine the core technology and increase cultivation efficiency per unit area, labor and energy input.
