Introduction of SFA program

We show you an easy way to make a floral arrangement.

"Very easy! You can create beautiful flower work."

Marks of different shapes are pressed into absorbent floral foam.

Cut flowers are inserted at each mark. Here, yellow gerberas are inserted into circles and orange cosmoses are inserted into triangles.

Our arrangement procedure is a useful method of cognitive training.
The training is called the Structured Floral Arrangement (SFA) program.

How to run an SFA program

  1. For each SFA session, previously prepared materials are used, and arrangements are made twice with the same plant materials.
  2. In the first trial, participants make an arrangement by following the step-by-step instructions provided by an assistant. At each step, the assistant points out any errors and prompts the participants to try again.
  3. In the second trial, the participants are asked to work alone by referring to an instruction sheet. The assistant doesn't give hints, just encourages the participants to complete the work alone. If participants give up, the assistant supports their work by giving appropriate instructions.
  4. Participants are expected to improve their arranging skills through repeated training. You can record the time required to complete an arrangement in the second trial of each session or take a photo of the work. You can then assess improvements by comparing times or photos.
  5. Start with the basic design (M), and move on to the advanced ones later.

Benefits of SFA program

Benefits of SFA program

We compared neuropsychological scores between 16 SFA-treated and 11 untreated patients with a neurocognitive disorder due to stroke or traumatic brain injury. Recall scores in the Rey-Osterrieth complex figure test improved significantly during 1-month treatment only in the SFA-treated group.
