Technology Application Group

The Institute of Vegetable and Floriculture Science is developing techniques to predict yield and dry matter production based on modeling and non-destructive measurement in year-round greenhouse vegetable and flower production.
These techniques are based on environmental information on temperature, solar radiation, and CO2 concentration, as well as bioinformation on leaf area and fruit dry matter ratio obtained from tomato production facilities. They make it possible (1) to estimate the material production and yield of tomato plants, and (2) to compare predicted and measured values of material production, in order to improve productivity and obtain information on environmental control for cultivation management.
In cooperation with industry, government, and academia, the Technology Application Group will use these modeling-based yield prediction techniques to improve production efficiency and expand their application beyond tomato cultivation, such as cucumber, strawberry, sweet pepper, and Eustoma.
