Division of Vegetable and Flower Breeding Technology Research

Our division is developing a smart breeding platform and innovative breeding materials for vegetables and flowers. The Breeding Technology Group is engaged in the "Acceleration of Vegetable and Flower Breeding by Accumulation of Genome and Phenotypic Information and Rapid Selection Method" and developing new breeding technologies, such as the collection of genome/phenotype information, genome editing, and genomic selection. The Materials Development Group is engaged in the "Development of Innovative Breeding Materials by Enhancing Genetic Resources." This group is involved in the search, collection and evaluation of genetic resources in Japan and overseas; development of functional vegetable breeding materials by comprehensive analysis of vegetable components; development of robust breeding materials by elucidating the pest/disease resistance mechanism and development of test methods and control technologies; development of quality improvement technology by analyzing and controlling the aroma components of vegetables and flowers; elucidation of flower aging mechanisms; and development of new aging control technology. Through such research, we aim to promptly introduce innovative varieties of vegetables and flowers, and contribute to improving the quality of vegetables and flowers.
