The Microbial Resources Group focuses on agriculture-related microorganisms such as plant pathogens. We collect related microbial genetic resources and carry out their identification, preservation, propagation, characterization, and distribution. Additionally, we develop new identification and detection methods and improve preservation techniques.
Approximately 95% of the microorganisms maintained are filamentous fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, yeasts, and plant viruses. Distributed microorganisms are mainly used for research and education purposes, such as classification, material production, pesticide development, and biological control. Since microbial classification has undergone significant changes, we confirm the identification of our microbial resources based on DNA sequence data and update their scientific names. For some microorganisms, we also provide recommended strain sets for their distribution. Furthermore, we are enhancing and accumulating information on microbial characteristics and making this information available on our website. By ensuring the long-term, safe, and stable preservation and distribution of microbial genetic resources, we aim to improve user convenience and promote the utilization of these resources.
