Microbial genetic resources

The Microorganism Section is responsible for the conservation of a wide range of microorganisms important in agriculture and the food industry, such as fungi, bacteria, yeasts, viruses, and bacteriophages. Maintenance and distribution of these resources are performed by the center bank and five sub-banks mostly located in Tsukuba. The culture collections are designated with the MAFF accessions and are available for distribution in Japan and other countries.
